Pune Traffic Police has initiated a major step in technology-driven enforcement with the trial launch of an AI-powered WhatsApp Chatbot for traffic violation reporting and e-challan issuance.
The system aims to speed up challan generation, reduce manual delays, and actively involve citizens in reporting traffic violations.
On October 1, Pune Traffic Police successfully conducted the first test run of the AI-powered chatbot. Once operational, citizens will be able to directly report traffic violations – including wrong-side driving, helmetless riding, triple-seat riding, overspeeding, signal jumping, and illegal parking – by submitting photos through WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Chatbot for Traffic Violation Reporting: AI-Powered Verification for Instant E-Challans
According to Pune traffic police, the whatsapp chatbot for traffic violations reporting will use artificial intelligence to analyze the submitted images.
With an accuracy rate of over 80%, the system will verify violations and generate instant E-Challans in the name of offenders.
Currently, the E-Challan process requires traffic police personnel to manually record details, capture photos, and then issue challans, often leading to delays. The whatsapp chatbot for traffic violations reporting is expected to significantly simplify and accelerate this process.

The initiative empowers citizens to play an active role in improving road discipline. By leveraging WhatsApp – a widely used platform – the chatbot integrates technology with public participation, making traffic law enforcement more efficient.

Building on Pune Traffic Police’s Tech Initiatives
Pune Traffic Police has already introduced technology-driven tools such as the PTP app and AI-enabled CCTV cameras. The WhatsApp chatbot for traffic violation reporting represents the next phase of smart traffic management in the city.
The chatbot system is being developed with support from engineering experts. Following the initial test run, refinements are being made to ensure reliability. Senior police officials confirmed that the system is expected to be ready for public use within three months.
